My brother-in-law and I fish several times at the pond on his farm, and we like to cook our catch while enjoying the outdoors. He had one burner that he had purchased a couple of years ago, but we fouond we could use another one to help speed up with the coffee, the fish, the potatoes, etc. I have one for home just in case we lose power, so I can fix coffee, soup, eggs, etc while we are without power… it happens here a lot since AEP loses power any time a storm blows in.

Initially, I wanted to purchase a propane camper type of heating stove. But, after Hurricane Ike in 2008, didn’t have much choice.

This unit worked surprisingly well. Easy to operate, and, whereas I was concerned about wind blowing out the flame (no wind guard), the butane was powerful enough to handle mild wind.

Butane canisters were also inexpensive. Cooked several meals on less than one canister!

Comes with lightweight plastic case. A bit too big and not rugged enough for a backpack camper. But perfect for a car camper or picner.

For the price, this is hard to beat.

As someone that has been an avid camper for many years, I find this stove to work very well for camping. It is lightweight, has a nice case, has a very uniform flame, and is economical to use.

It can also be used as a warmer for potluck and other buffet type applications.

It’s cheap and functional …. what else do you need to say?

Review date : 2008-02-23
I bought this stove at a local Asian foods market for 12 bucks. The fuel was well priced there too. While a windguard, as another reviewer mentioned, would have been great for the camping folks, this stove is perfect as a back-up method to heat food up during an electrical outage if a big storm comes your way. Given the economical price, it’s a good thing to have around, with a couple of butane bottles, just in case….

One of the store employees showed me how to use it. When the fuel bottle is in place correctly in the stove it is releasing butane. Since this is the case, it is highly recommended that you take the butane bottle out of the stove when you are not actively using it.

Review date : 2007-07-17
I was under the assumption that the fuel that one sees at the big-box stores for camping would be butane. Not so.

After finding fuel for this stove at a local hardware store (as an aside, it was much cheaper than the stove fuel found at the big box stores, and lasts just as long), we took this stove camping. Nice, compact design and quick cooldown are definite bonuses to this item. I especially like the very easy turn-knob ignition and flame control.

The only caveat is that it does not have a wind guard. If it is windy it takes quite a while to cook food or boil water. I rigged a wind guard out of a box covered with aluminum foil and it worked wonders. I am planning on making one out of metal that is foldable so I can pack it along with the stove.

Overall, nice stove.

Innovation Through ConceptCombination

There are many creative problem solving techniques used by inventors to come up with new solutions to old problems. For sheer innovation, though, it’s hard to beat the technique of concept-combination. Just start combining ideas and things, and voila, you’re having fun - and maybe creating something new.

Innovation or Inovation?

Combining the concept of search engine misspellings with article writing gave me inovation. What good is that? Well, now that I’ve used the misspelled word twice, the thousand people every month that type inovation into search engines can find this article.

Search engine combined with people, could lead to the first search engine devoted entirely to information on individuals. People plus advertising might lead to the first large-scale paid-tatoo-placement campaign. Want a monthly stipend for having a Coke logo on your forehead?

Much of the innovation you see in the business world is nothing more than combining existing ideas. For a ton of new business ideas, just combine the concept of home delivery with almost anything. Parties, tax preparers, rental swimming pools? Would people pay to have these things delivered?

Using Creative Problem Solving Techniques

In the process of innovation, you need to be careful not to stifle creativity. This means allowing ideas to come without judging them at first. It also means using techniques only as tools, not as a rules. If your mind goes off on a creative tangent - let it.

Randomly combining things is a great mental exercise when you’re driving or daydreaming. A boat and a bicycle becomes a waterski-bike that glides across the lake using pedal-power. Combining stock-trading and McDonalds has you imagining the selling of stocks and bonds at drive through windows.

For more specific problems, you just look for things to combine with what you already have. If your taxi business is struggling, combining taxi and pets might lead to a successful arrangement with a kennel, to pick up and deliver their client’s cats and dogs. Famous people, might give you the idea to run some sort of tour of the town, like they do in Hollywood.

For maximum creativity in your innovation, look far and wide for concepts to combine. Meditation and amusement parks seem too unrelated to yield interesting combinations, but I’ll bet people at a carnival would pay to be put into a meditative trance using the latest brainwave entrainment technologies.

This grill is sturdy and rugged. The legs unfold easily and provide strong support for the grill. This thing will easily hold even the heaviest items like a fully loaded large Dutch oven. I actually use this grill indoors in our fireplace in winter (although it just barely fits) and we love it. It also folds up for easy storage back in the box after it cools. Bottom line: in the world of flimsy junk labeled "heavy duty," it’s nice to find one item that actually IS heavy duty and works the way it should.

Review date : 2008-08-05
We took this camping and found that it’s sturdy and it fit the campsite firepit perfectly, making it a great way to cook over the campfire–no need for charcoal!

Review date : 2008-07-17
Got this today and very happy with it. Great for camping as I don’t like to use grills others have used don’t know what they have put on it. I love this and when you are done just put it in the box it came in. I saved mine for that reason. Legs just fold under EASY. Oh my gosh am I happy with this. You won’t be sorry.

Review date : 2008-01-12
Works very nice. When parking /camping this tool makes cooking very eazy.
Glad I found it.

Review date : 2007-10-02
I bought one of these for a camping trip and it worked great. We cooked steaks, porkchops, and onions right on the grill and everything turned out perfectly. Since it’s not too wide, you can wrap some foil over it to help trap some heat.

It’s pretty heavy, but once it’s folded up, it hardly takes up any space. Since it’s wide and flat, it can sit in the bottom of your trunk or below a back seat.

The Gift Of Being A Mentor

As we move through our lives we gather an abundance of knowledge and experience covering a myriad of areas. As we stop and reflect upon all this knowledge we may be struck with the desire to share with others our experiences and the knowledge we have gained. We know in our hearts that what we have gained in experience in our life could be of benefit. So in possession of this knowledge and experience and with the desire to share it, where do we start?

How about becoming a mentor? Mentoring has been around for a long time and has grown and evolved over the years. A mentoring relationship is one in which one person, often older, but always with more experience guides another person?s development. Mentoring can be utilized in almost any area of life.

Most everyone has heard of Big Brothers and Big Sisters, an incredible program matching adults with under privileged children. The positive results experienced by the children participating in the program are truly impressive. This is only one area where mentoring has had proven results.

Teachers also have the opportunity to be mentors encouraging students to reach for goals they may never have dreamed possible. Teachers in particular work so closely with children for so many hours of the day they are given a wonderful chance to impact a child?s life in a favorable way. Many of us can look back fondly in remembrance of at least one teacher who had a lasting positive effect on our life.

Some school systems have implemented mentoring programs for children enlisting the help of adult volunteers. The results have been well documented including increased school attendance, educational performance, confidence and self-esteem. The adults have been given a priceless opportunity to influence a child?s life.

Business and the corporate environment have recognized the value of mentors and mentoring programs. In larger corporations a mentor will be assigned to incoming junior employees to give these newest members of the corporation the best possible start. Similar programs have been started in many schools to support the new teachers coming into the education system. Any career path you are contemplating would be benefited by enlisting the guidance of a mentor and many people already established in a certain career still work with a mentor to further themselves in their chosen field. As a coach I work with a mentor coach and find it an invaluable business and life resource.

With the increase of entrepreneurs forging ahead to start their own businesses, mentors will be in higher demand as their prior business experience and knowledge will be invaluable. The same holds true for any business owner targeting a niche market, where specific prior experience in the similar niche could influence success or failure.

As for the person contemplating what to do with their wealth of experience and knowledge; what should they expect?

Mentoring is truly the gift of yourself that you share with another human being. It is a relationship you establish with the mentor in the place of more experience and the mentee the benefactor of your experience and guidance.

Both people truly benefit from this special relationship. The mentor will gain the pleasure of sharing their knowledge. They will also discover a new excitement surrounding the area in which they are serving as a mentor. When you observe someone else benefiting from your knowledge and experience it is difficult not to feel a sense of pleasure and fulfillment. We all want to know we matter in this world, that we indeed have made a difference. Becoming a mentor is one of the great ways to have a positive impact on another human being.

If you want to get started on being a mentor, get clear on who you would like to work with and whether it would be in a business context or helping someone develop in their personal life. Do you want to work one on one or would you like to share your experience with a greater number of people?

Once you have a direction, do the research. Big Brothers Big Sisters is always looking for volunteers. Many school systems offer programs of their own. A phone call will likely give you the information you may need. The internet contains many websites regarding mentoring opportunities and how to get started. If you currently work in a large corporation, check with the Human Resource department for opportunities that may exist in your company.

If you feel that you would like to put your writing talents to good use, mentoring is a wonderful opportunity. I have many of my most influential mentors between the pages of a book.

Most importantly get started. The world is in need of your experience and the gift of yourself, don?t keep it waiting. The benefits you will enjoy will be priceless.

The hatchet is good. The knife was not properly sharpened, after I sharpened it, a good knife. The sheath is bad, it can not hold the knife securely, hetcht part is OK.

Review date : 2008-04-24
I really didn’t expect this product to be as good quality as it was… After a thorough inspection, I decree this product to be of high quality while "held in my hands". (I can’t wait to chop some stuff and find out.) The picture obviously leaves much to be desired, but the whole thing actually looks better than the picture. However, I wonder why the brand I received is actually Smith & Wesson instead of Schrade? No worries though, both brand names are equal to me (whatever). If these tools performs as well as they look, this is a an absolute bargain, and I totally recommend buying it. But if it breaks… CURSE YOU!!! (lol, j/k) (NOT REALLY!)

Holding On To The Dream

?Mumbler? Willie Wonka shouts at the little boy telling him his idea won?t work, ?What is it with you? I just can?t hear you??

Everyone has their critics, perhaps a partner, friend, parents, or work colleagues. You have a goal, an idea, or an ambition and they just try to pull you down and tell you it won?t work.

In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Willie Wonka had Mike TeaVee as his critic, constantly doubting and disbelieving in all of Wonka?s inventions and ideas. Willie?s method of dealing with this doubt was to not hear the criticism.

Why do they do this?

Partly it is because they are jealous of your ambition and desire to succeed. It may also be because in the past they tried to succeed and failed and they no longer believe it is possible.

Maybe they are trying to protect you from getting hurt. I mean, they wouldn?t want you working hard to achieve a goal and then for you to fail and get upset or hurt, would they?

Often times these people are doing the best they can with the resources they have available to them. Unfortunately, they may not have the right resources to help you achieve your goals and dreams.

This is why I tell people to be very careful who they share their goals with. There are times when it is good to tell people your goals. For example, if you know they are going to support you and encourage you to achieve your goals, then it is a good idea.

If you are going to have someone hold you accountable to your goal, then you must tell them. They will encourage you and ensure you achieve it.

However, if you are like most of the rest of us, there are only a few select people you can share your goals with. For most of the rest, you just have to keep quiet and not tell them what you are working towards; just let them see the results.

If you are not assured about achieving your goals then you really need to keep them to yourself. If you share your goals with other people then their criticism or disbelief can seriously impede your progress towards your target, or in the worst case, stop you completely.

Every successful person on the planet faces constant criticism and doubt. The difference between them and the millions who have never dared dream of their goals is that the successful people brush off the doubt and criticism and believe in themselves.

Admittedly, there are times when perhaps you ought to listen. If you are standing on top of a tall building thinking you can fly ? that?s a good time to listen to the people who think you can?t. However, who?s to say that if you believe you could fly you could, but I wouldn?t test it and wouldn?t recommend you do either, just in case.

However, in general, you can take a leaf out of Willie Wonka?s book and ignore the critics around you and believe you can achieve ? because your only limits are those you choose to accept or allow others to put upon you.

It’s really compact and packed with useful tools. I especially like the light and the pen. Just want to add that, unlike what the product description says, this "Midnite" minichamp does not have tweezers. The three that I received came with product instruction for MiniChamp (which does have tweezers) although they are themselves midnite minichamp knifes.

Review date : 2009-01-07
This is really a Champ. It’s small enough to carry or attach to a key ring and has plenty of tools to handle most jobs.

Review date : 2009-01-07
I like it very much! The LED light is cool and the little pen is very useful!

Review date : 2009-01-06
I gave two of these mini knives for Christmas, both "boys" loved it and had lots of fun playing with the knife. Construction and materials looked good. I would recommend this for any "boys" on your gift list.

Be A Higher Being

How to be in communion with consciousness? Actually everybody is always in communion with consciousness but then this will beg the question why everybody is not the master of his/her destiny? Actually what cuts you off from consciousness is your ego self or to put it in another way your attitude cuts you off from consciousness. Whats ego? Ego is everything that has got to do with self centeredness. When you identify yourself with ego you become thoroughly limited in your scope. One of the biggest conditions of ego is you should function always on the basis of self gain. Now there is no sin in this only the consequences when you lead an ego driven life you invite moments of exhiliration and frustration, stress, fear, envy, complexes of all kinds, anger and so on. When these negative qualities predominate, you remain a slave. Now when you identify with your higer self you are expanded in your scope and the universe conspires with you to help you achieve whatever you desire. When you evolve to this state, you invite to yourself faith, a state of bliss, the power to create, pure love and so on. Now the question is what is needed to evolve to this level? Wait till you get the next instalment

I leave you with this mystical poem:

GODWARD Like a gyroscope you keep gyrating(spinning)
And will stop oneday when your force is spent
Then will dawn the realization that like the needle of a compass always pointing northward
The arrowhead of your thought ought to have always pointed godward

    Customer Reviews

    Review date : 2008-10-09
Well, O.K., I don’t sneer at hurricanes. But after Hurricane Ike and a week without power, we decided to upgrade our emergency lighting to more than flashlights, candles and chemical light sticks.

I bought three of these family-sized Coleman lanterns and three MicroPacker lanterns (also reviewed). The first time I turned on this family-sized lantern I went "WOW!" This is a serious light! I measured the light output of this lantern (I’m a photojournalist) and discovered it puts out half the light of a 40 watt bulb, but much, much more light than a 25 watt bulb. There is plenty of light for reading and walking around like a human being instead of stumbling around with flashlights.

The "low" setting is almost as bright as the "high" setting (only one-half stop dimmer), but extends the battery life from 17 hours to a fantastic 28 hours! I figure one set (8) of fresh "D" cells should last though a week of dark nights.

The family-sized lantern is tough and well-made. It’s not waterproof, but I wouldn’t worry about taking it out into the rain. It doesn’t have rubber seals, but the nice, tight fittings should keep it dry.

One minor point: the large clear housing is a Coleman tradition, but a simple clear cylinder would be more streamlined and compact. The lantern is about the size of a full-sized gas mantle unit. I wouldn’t backpack with it, but it is a great unit for emergencies and base camps. Now if Coleman only made a battery-powered air conditioner . . .

    Review date : 2008-10-03
I have tried several similar lamps. This is bright enough to read by comfortably. It’s sturdy and uses easy to install D batteries which are available everywhere. Two light levels saves battery power.

    Review date : 2007-12-21
This gives off a lot of light. When I put it on a table with a mirror behind it, it’s even better. During a power outage, I can easily read with the amount of light this lantern produces.

    Review date : 2007-12-11
This is pretty good! The light is not all that bright but it works well for those times when we need to see what’s going on in the barn at night. And it’s been great in our recent power outages. I do recommend it.

    Review date : 2007-11-13
I bought the wrong one…I bought the one that was battery operated but I wanted the one that was recharable. So, I returned it, which, by the way, was so easy to do.

5 Steps To Your Brighter Happier Future

Are you longing to create a better life for yourself but in the dark about how to go about it? Here?s five empowering steps to light up the way to a brighter, happier, future.

1. The very first step is the step that most people just don?t want to do. Yet it is the single most important step of all. It?s about spending lots of time seriously thinking about what you want to do. I recommend at least thirty minutes but preferably an hour, each day to think about what you want to do with your time here on our beautiful planet. Your time here is finite. So set aside the time to think about how you want to spend it.

2. Make a decision to be your own guiding light. By this, I mean have the courage to follow what is in your heart. Seek out the path you truly want to follow and not a path others deem appropriate for you. Only you know what you truly want to do with your life. Be unique. Express yourself. Set free the creative spirit within you and be your own person. Sure this involves courage. Ronald Reagan puts it succinctly: ?The future doesn?t belong to the faint-hearted, it belongs to the brave.? Gain strength from this.

3. Develop a thirst for knowledge. Make a firm choice here and now to do what it takes to achieve your ambitions. You will need to acquire knowledge and skills to follow your chosen course. Wise: The Internet is the greatest resource you could ever wish for to help you on your journey. Use it. Seek out people who share your interests. Use your local facilities such as libraries, associations and clubs. Local government organizations may be useful too. Be proactive and spread your net as far and as wide as you can.

4. It?s no good embarking on an endless quest for knowledge. Knowledge is only useful if it is applied to a useful purpose. In this instance, it should be applied on a daily basis to take you closer and closer to your goals. Avoid the temptation to be an armchair adventurer. Acquire knowledge and put it into action. Again, taking action requires courage. But unless you take action, your dreams for a better life will remain, well, I?m sure you can guess the rest!

5. Realize that fear is the biggest threat to your aspirations. Every time you try and change your life, fear will rise like an angry cobra to try and stop you. Its paralyzing venom comes in the form of excuses it will generate in your mind so you can justify inaction. Examples of this would be your age, your education, your looks, your sex, your color, your size, your religion, your family, your job and so on and so on. All of these are just excuses; they are a crutch for weakness and no such excuses are valid. Many people have overcome all of the above obstacles and many overcame much harder ones. Make a pact with me right now before I end this article: You won?t make lame excuses to placate your fears anymore. Today, you have kicked away the excuse crutch and you?re going to stand on your own two feet and get cracking on creating a brighter future!

The brighter future you long for lies within you. Today is the first day of your new future. Use the knowledge you?ve just gained and keep moving towards your new life. It?s up to you now.
