This is my first hammock, and I am enjoying the freedom it allows in choosing set-up locations. I’ve used mine a handful of times now, and it has been a good and fairly smooth experience, guided by the suggestions I’ve found at Hammock Forums on the internet. There are several issues I’ve encountered and had to learn my way around, such as finding the right knots to secure everything quickly and easily, the right angles and levels to set it up at, arranging myself and my stuff inside at the same time, and the need for an underquilt when using a down sleeping bag. I believe I’ll have everything figured out soon. I can’t think of any obvious failing of the hammock, and my only desire so far would have been a bit more tarp coverage. I highly recommend the "snake skins" accessory, which makes setup, takedown and storage very simple and fast. I also got the water catchment accessory for the tarp, but have not had the chance to use it yet. I am a happy hammocker.

Reflections Of The Past Year Goal Setting Strategies For A New Year

I don?t know about you but for me it seems that as I get older the years seem to go by faster. You know that clich? ?time flies when you?re having fun?. Well I don?t know if that?s what happening but here it is again, another year gone by.

The end of the year brings about a lot of introspection about what you have accomplished or not accomplished for the year. As I reflect on the year, I feel a mixture of feelings. Some things I?m not too happy about while other things I feel pretty good about. All in all I know that I am blessed especially when I thing about the loved ones and others that were lost to death during the year.

This year has brought about heartbreaking devastation from the hurricanes, a tsunami, brush fires, earthquakes, mudslides, floods, tornadoes, and loss of jobs that have affected people not only living in other countries but people living right here in the United States. As I reflect, it also brings to mind how much we take for granted, but in reality life is so short. The time we have here on earth is so precious and valuable that we should not ever complain or take for granted what could be taken away in an instant. That?s why I have decided to set some simple goals for myself for the upcoming year to optimize my time.

Here are some strategies that you may find helpful in setting goals for your life:

  • A good place to start is reflecting on the past year and identifying your successes and identifying things that didn?t go so well for you.

  • Think about areas of your life that you want to improve in. You might want to think about your relationships, finances, health, career, spirituality and narrow down and focus on certain areas by selecting two to three that are most important to you at this time.

  • Set up small steps to accomplish your goals followed by action steps. For example, a goal could be wanting to lose 10 pounds within the next three months. Action steps to make this goal a reality may include visiting the gym two ? three times a week and eating healthier meals that include more vegetables and less junk foods.

  • Make your goals measurable, achievable, and set a time frame. Set them according to what you can do not to what you think you should do or what others have done.

  • Write your goals down and visualize yourself accomplishing them. In fact you should visualize yourself achieving your goals throughout the time you are working on them. This positive energy will help in your success. Believing that you can achieve the goal is a must. Writing your goals down also makes them seem more real.

  • Share your goals with someone that is important to you. If you think that someone will be supportive and positive in your accomplishments, by all means share your goals with that person.

  • Document your progress. Writing down or placing a star on the calendar when you accomplish something related to a goal gives you a record of your accomplishment and helps validate while giving your self-esteem a boost.

  • Be prepared to evaluate your goals on a monthly or every two month basis. This allows you to see where you are and if you need make some adjustments in your action steps. If you find that you are not being as successful as you think you should, take a look at what is hindering progress and eliminate the obstacle.

  • The best part is rewarding yourself. Rewarding yourself is exciting and helps to motivate. Rewarding yourself can be an inexpensive event or thing such as treating yourself to a long hot bath or a movie that you have been wanting to see.

  • Lastly don?t be afraid to change your goals if you need to. Sometimes circumstances change that could affect your plan and you will need to make adjustments. It?s okay, don?t get stuck. Change what needs to be changed and move on.

My hope is that you have found these strategies useful in starting this upcoming New Year off with a plan, a focus and a positive outlook toward the future. Good Luck!

Everyday is a Gift, Open and Enjoy It

There is a bottle of perfume sitting on my dresser that I was given when I was ten years old! As you can tell I have pack rat tendencies! For me that pattern started as a young child. I could never bear to throw things away. There was more to it than not wanting to throw things away. I loved the feeling I had when I would receive something new, and would not want to spoil it by using it unless it was for something special. I would want to save it for a special occasion. A new dress would sit in the closet, until a special event to wear it. Perfume would sit on my dresser, not to be used for everyday, but for a special ’something’. This was a pattern in my life for many years.

Perhaps, however, this is not the best perspective to view life. It is reminiscent of the woman on the Titanic, who when was being lowered into the lifeboat said”If I’d known this was going to happen I would have had that Chocolate Mousse dessert.” It is a view of life that speaks a lie. The belief is that if I enjoy something now, I won’t be able to look forward to anything good like that in the future. This belief steals the joy from living in the present, and also lies about what the future might hold. Often it takes sad or traumatic situation to cause a person to stop and take stock their life’s perspective and lifestyle. For example, let me tell you how it happened for Ruth.

One day, out of the blue, Ruth got one of those devastating ‘phone calls’ that we all dread receiving. Her sister Jane had passed away unexpectedly. Ruth went over to the home to help her brother in law with the sad task of preparation for the funeral. They were in the bedroom deciding on clothes Jane would wear as she was laid to rest. He pulled out of the drawer some beautiful lingerie wrapped in tissue. Ruth gasped as she saw the astronomical cost on the price tag. “Jane bought this in Paris 8 or 9 years ago. She never wore it. She was saving it for a special occasion. I guess this is it.” he said. It was exquisitely, handmade in silk, with a delicate cobweb of lace .As he slammed the drawer shut he said something that changed Ruth’s life for ever. “Don’t ever save anything for a special occasion. Every day you’re alive is a special occasion!

After the funeral, Ruth began to evaluate her life from a different perspective. She began to see life as something to be enjoyed not endured. Ruth started to make changes, although small at first, for Ruth they had great significance. She sat in the garden more and didn’t worry about the weeds. She wore expensive perfume on ordinary days, after all co workers and cashiers have noses that function just as well as party goers! She lit that candle that had been sitting as a centre piece on the dining room table collecting dust. She got that cracked window fixed, that she’d been meaning to do for years. She invited those friends round for dinner that she’d seen at the last sixteen weddings, and said we must get together.

Ruth determined that she would live each day as if it was her last. Now every morning when Ruth opens her eyes, she tells herself that this day is special. Every day, every breath, every minute of her life is truly a gift from God.

Your life perspective changes when you start living each day as if it was your last. You start to look at all the things that you want to accomplish in life and actually get started!! You stop watching everyone else doing it. Have the courage to start thinking “It’s my turn now” and do what is in your heart.

Grandma Moses began a painting career at age seventy six. Golda Meir was elected Prime Minister of Israel in 1969 at age seventy one.Lucy is in her eighties and has in the last two years, been white-water rafting, and hiking in the Himalayas. She is excitedly planning her next trip!

Don’t wait years, or until something traumatic happens to get your attention. Start now to reflect on your life’s perspective and begin living without regrets.

Peter Sage, speaker and entrepreneur said:

“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, “Wow - What a Ride!”
