Days out for Grown Ups, Families, Corporate…Everyone!

Parties and celebrations don’t need to be a simply an afternoon or just an evening. Why not make a day, or even a weekend of it?

For entertaining Children there is a massive amount of options available to keep them active for the entire day. To be honest, it can be so much easier and less stressful to take them out for the day and letting someone else organise their events instead of having all the chaos in your own home, or the hassle of booking allsorts of different suppliers.

Classic Days Out include Tourist Attractions such as Theme parks, Fun Fairs, Amusement Arcades and Activity Play Centres. A more cultured and educational, but equally as interesting day out could include visits to Art Galleries, Museums, Heritage Centres or a local Historic House. Some Zoos or Wildlife Centres are set within the grounds of a historic Mansion House. Many of these combinations are geared towards families - usually including an Adventure Playground to ensure that the children sleep well on the way home!

More energetic children (and “grown up’s”!) may wish to consider a sporting activity - many Leisure Centres can provide activities such as Football or Rugby Days, or hire out courts so you can arrange your own tournaments for Tennis, Badminton or Squash!

You could ask local sports team, for example a cricket team, to provide a days training on their professional sport. Many Golf Courses, Football Grounds or Cricket Greens have a club house to hire, so consider this if you are wanting to combine an active day out with a party supper.

There are a plethora of activities to be enjoyed on the water; take a small group out on a riverboat or punting (don’t forget the lifejackets!), or embark on a days frivolities learning to water ski or wind surf. If some calm is required, a spot of fishing could be called upon. Or just gather up your swimming costumes and enjoy a leisurely afternoon at a swimming pool.

If you’d rather get your adrenaline pumping, why not consider the air?! Many air bases cater for sky divers, parachutists and gliders. Or, if you aren’t too keen on free falling, why not take a scenic hot air balloon ride over the countryside? These rides also make brilliant birthday presents for those people who have everything, as does flying lessons. If your budget doesn’t stretch that far, there are some amazing kites available to buy and fly!

Driving experiences are always exhilarating. Choose a competitive game, such as Quad Biking or Go Karting, perhaps a trip to Silverstone to keep everyone busy. Go Karting and Quad Biking are good fun for both adults and children and no license is necessary! Solo events such as an hour driving a Ferrari or an Off Road Driving experience makes a brilliant present for that Peter Pan man in your life! For more adrenaline pumping action, how about shooting?! Clay Pigeons for the less energetic, or a mad day of Paint-balling or Laser Games for the more active!

Finding an enjoyable evening entertainment to include children can be difficult. A trip to the Cinema or Theatre can be a very welcome way to spend an evening. you get to sit down after a hectic day! If you are still feeling motivated, why not find a Bowling Alley, Bingo Hall or even a venue holding a Musical or Themed Night to stretch the evening out even longer!

There are many types of accommodation you can choose to frequent if you decide to stay away with your family. From a room in a quaint little B&B to camping in woodlands, from luxury holiday cottages to 5* hotels, there is a bed out there somewhere which is perfect for you! Many large theme parks now have associated hotels, or complexes within the grounds to make your weekend even easier, and many tourist attractions will also have recommended accommodation.

For more specifically ‘adult’ entertainment, the evening is your time to shine! Choose from Bars, Nightclubs, Casino’s or Comedy Clubs, or enjoy a more sophisticated evening of Wine Tasting. And if you have had enough and need some quality ‘me time’, remember that you can always use next weekend to hide away in a Health Spa, pampered to within an inch of your life! I bought this hiking pole for my husband. I have to say, that he was really impressed. Had all the features he wanted in a hiking pole and at a bargain price! It has the anti-shock, LED flashlight, compass, snow basket attachment, and is collapsable. He’s already hit the trails in Colorado and is enjoying his new Kaito Anti-Shock Hiking Pole.
Why spend $100 when you can get this one for $20? I’d definitly recommend it!

…when my partner took this baby out for a test walk. He was thrilled with the flashlight, something his other canes do not have. The light was strong and ensured not only that he could see his way, but that vehicles he might meet while getting the mail would also see him. Another feature that he loves is the telescoping. It allows him to put this in carry on luggage or the case he carries to work so he is hands free when he needs to be. He is looking forward to testing out the hiking features after he has his knee replaced this spring. Overall this was a very successful Christmas gift!

MoneyFriend Or Foe?

Is money a friend or a foe? I dare say neither. Money just is. It is a medium of exchange (nothing more and nothing less) that our society has elevated into a determination of status.

Much of western civilization has determined that the size of one?s bank account determines the value of that person. You hear much to the contrary, but as the saying goes, actions speak louder than words.

Next Thursday, we in the United States usher in the start of the holiday season with our celebration of Thanksgiving. The next 30 ? 45 days will be filled with good cheer and best wishes and thoughts of ?Peace on Earth? and ?Good Will to Men?. Charities find the next 6 weeks to historically be their best season in receiving monetary donations. The homeless are given shelter as churches and synagogues seek special donations for Christmas and Chanukah gifts for children. Everyone of every faith prays for peace and understanding.

But what happens the other 46 weeks of the year? Oh, sure, the charities and foundations are still there. But how do we as a society treat them and those with less or no money? How do we as a society treat those with less status?

According to the most recent statistics I have seen, the numbers of people without any health care coverage in the United States are approaching 46 million. Why? Unemployment in the United States is officially over 6%. But what is the real figure? Millions have been out of work so long, the government doesn?t even count them anymore. If one has become so discouraged in not being able to find employment and so he/she gives up for a while, that person isn?t counted anymore as being in the workforce. I have seen estimates that put the actual unemployment figure at close to 10%.

And this doesn?t apply to the United States alone. Different countries, different societies have different ways of handling this. But, as a general rule, Western civilization has determined money to be a determinative of one?s value.

And, this is not good. Yet, contrary to where you might think I am going, money is not evil. Money is good. Some think the Bible states that money is the root of all evil. It does not say that ? anywhere. The Bible does say, ?the love of money is the root of all evil?.

And the Bible does not refer just to ?money? when it calls the ?love of money? the root of all evil. ?Money? serves, here, as a euphemism for material goods, selfishness, even thoughts and ideas.

When material items, such as money, and thoughts and ideas become more important than the person and people in general, we are entering upon evil. In the movie ?Wall Street?, Gordon Gekko, played by Michael Douglas, states in one scene that ?Greed is good?.

Gordon Gekko was wrong. Greed is evil. I am not a linguist, but I dare say that the statement in the Bible that ?The love of money is the root of all evil? would be better translated as ?Greed is the root of all evil?.

The ?love of money? being the root of all evil, and hence taken by many people as money, itself, being the root of all evil has caused many of us to have deep seated thoughts of hostility towards and fear of money and financial riches. Nothing can be further from the truth, and this underlying hostility towards money has probably caused untold heartaches and poverty and hopelessness in our world.

If you are having difficulties in achieving your financial and material goals, your attitude towards money may be what is holding you back.

Ask yourself these questions:
What does money mean to me?
What are my core beliefs about money?
What did I learn as a child about money?
What do I think it really takes to earn and acquire financial abundance?

Ask yourself these questions and ponder your answers. Do you have answers such as the following?
Money doesn?t grow on trees.
We can?t afford it.
God loves the poor.
I just need enough to live.

Or do your answers resemble these? With enough money, I can give a good education to my children. Money enables me to travel and enjoy God?s creation. Money relieves the stress from day to day living. With money, I can help all those who are less fortunate.

If you find that your beliefs about money are holding you back from achieving and empowering your dreams, then you need to change your beliefs immediately.

Money is not the problem. As with many things in our lives, it is our attitude that is the problem.

I purchased the Eureka Tetragon 8 for a recent camping trip some buddies and I took at Myakka State Park in Florida. I did not get a chance to seal the seams before giving it a try. We arrived Friday evening after work and set up camp. This first thing I noticed was that this thing was an absolute breeze to set up without even reading the instructions, the second thing was disappointing, this is not a 4 person tent. By the time I inflated my twin size air-mattress and put the rest of my gear in the tent their would have been room for just 1 more person, but like most manufacturers they tend to exaggerate the amount of people you can comfortably fit. The fit and finish of the tent is top notch. Friday night it rained torrentially for many hours, and when I woke up in the morning the tent was dry! Everyone else had leaks in their tents and one buddies tent had about 1/2 inch water covering the bottom of his tent floor. I highly recommend this tent for 2 people and once again Amazon shipped it on time and in perfect condition.

This tent was recently (Sept/Oct 2008) used on a 17-day camping trip through Yellowstone and the Black Hills. It performed flawlessly. The zippers were never a problem, the tent set up very easily, and it dried out very quickly when it became wet with rain, dew, or frost. The interior stayed dry in a heavy rain. The ventilation was excellent. We set up/took down the tent 12 times during those 17 days, and no problems at all. We’re truly happy with it and plan to use it often in the future.

Review date : 2008-08-11
I bought this tent to use during motorcycle touring. The packed size is a little long to allow it to be placed in the trunk of my 86 Goldwing but we take a trailer anyway. It is a good size for two large men with air mattresses and we have had three inside. It sets up easily but I found it necessary to upgrade on the tent stakes. The door is a simple zipper system that hasn’t missed a beat, as long as you grab the zipper pull correctly, it easily navigates past the storm flap for the zipper across the bottom of the door. The pockets inside are adjustable to several locations and are very handy to keep track of items while you sleep. All of the mesh that is covered up by the rain fly is great for ventilation but doesn’t retain much heat on cold nights. This is not a big deal as long as you plan accordingly with an appropriate sleeping bag. The extension over the door and window are a nice touch and I have observed no sign of the pole ripping through the pocket and I have used this tent for three years. My friend has a much larger tent, but we take this one because it is just that easy to set up, tear down and pack away. There are many models within the Tetragon series of Eureka tents, just select the size you need.

Review date : 2008-01-03
The rainfly on the Tetragon 8 that I received was the problem. It has two shock corded short poles to hold the rainfly above the doorway, and above the rear window. By Day 2 of a 7 day camping trip, after a brief summer storm with slight wind, the poles had broken out of their little sleeves and torn small holes in the rainfly, causing the doorway overhang to fall over the door. The back window situation was a little better in that the poles didn’t completely break through. That said, the tent did not leak, which is the only reason I’m even giving it a 2. The tent is useless to me now, and I will not make the mistake of purchasing another Eureka with such a flawed design. I am a veteran camper, and have other tents. I was hoping the Eureka, as a lightweight tent, would offer me a viable and economical alternative. It did NOT.

Review date : 2007-10-10
I purchased two of these tents for use by family while weekend camping at the river.
The tents went up easily and appeared to be of good quality. They would be good for light back packing or car camping. They are not meant for four season camping or in heavy weather. Well worth the money.

Break The Grip Of Procrastination

Perhaps no single human behavior is as universal as procrastination. Even the most productive among us occasionally fall prey to its grip. And there are few things that rob us of more joy, productivity, freedom and achievement than procrastination. My purpose today is not to discuss all the reasons we procrastinate, but to offer some simple but powerful techniques for breaking its hold on us. Perhaps as you read this, you’re procrastinating on writing a report, exercising, starting a project or cleaning off your desk. So, read on, and apply any or all of the steps listed below, and start making things happen.

1) Ask yourself which project, task or result will have the greatest payoff for you if you act on it now. Once you’ve decided on a focus, go to step 2.

2) Ask yourself what you could produce or complete in the next 5 minutes toward that project. Usually it’s a matter of taking one or two small steps that breaks the deadlock of procrastination.

3) Once you’ve identified those small steps, pick one and do it. Then do the next.

4) Stay focused on the results you’re aiming for. Most of us get derailed because we smother ourselves in the minute, forgetting to look up at the goal we were after in the first place. Especially if it’s a big project, keeping that vision in mind can be very motivating.

5) Keep a list of easy-to-do projects that will produce a quick, visible result. Sometimes we simply need the satisfaction of a small win to fuel us toward greater achievement.

6) Remember times when you broke through procrastination and even beat a deadline? A coaching client of mine recently completed two huge projects in a matter of days. Now when she gets mired in I don’t know if I can do this, thinking, I remind her of her recent accomplishment, and it sparks her motivation.

7) Stop worrying about whether you feel like it. As Shakespeare said, our doubts are traitors. Instead go back to steps 1 and 2 to decide what is most important, then act on it.

8) Celebrate your successes along the way. Did you complete a project this morning that you had to get done? Give yourself a small reward. The old saying nothing succeeds like success applies here. But usually we get so busy on the next task or project that we don’t stop to savor the satisfaction of our accomplishments.

9) Create a guideline to remind you. In the Best Year Yet program we create guidelines–standards of behavior–to guide us through the year ahead. A guideline that repeatedly shows up on my BYY plans is Act on it now.

10) Do something counter-intuitive. Need to break a mental block? Get up and do a few minutes of stretching or walk around the block. Trying to write and the well is dry? Get a paper and pen and simply write the first thing that pops into your head. Keep writing until words begin to flow again. Get laughing. Laughter has a way of clearing mental debris, and the endorphins released have a way of getting you in action. Sometimes the logical thing to do is the least logical. Give it a try.

As I often confess, these weekly messages are more for my benefit than anyone else’s. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m ready to tackle the rest of my to do list!!

Hurricane of Fear

Have you noticed how fear demands your immediate attention?

Manipulation through fear by people in positions of authority pervades
every aspect of our culture. Media use fear to get ratings. Politicians use
fear to get votes. Corporations use fear to sell products. Government
uses fear to influence public opinion, i.e. Saddam Hussein has weapons
of mass destruction “It’s a slam dunk!”

In the thirty-five years my parents lived in Florida they experienced
numerous deadly hurricanes. What did they do without up-to-the-minute
satellites and experts telling them what to do? They listened to weather
reports, trusted their instincts and did what was necessary to survive.
Accustomed to thinking for themselves, previous generations relied on
their ingenuity to make creative intelligent decisions.

In March I was at a Bed and Breakfast in Key West. While chatting with
the friendly desk clerk I asked him whether he was among the
thousands of individuals who evacuated the Keys last year in advance
of Hurricane Wilma. He told me he’s lived in the Keys for twenty-five
years and thus far the weather hasn’t driven him out of his house, which
is on concrete stilts. Nevertheless, he does have a ‘just-in-case’ plan.

Even with good leadership, government is limited in what it can do to
protect citizens at home. In the case of the ultimate catastrophe, the
federal government’s first priority is not we the people. It is the survival of
the country’s leaders and lawmakers. We cannot rely on government for
protection from monumental natural disasters, plagues and terrorist
attacks. Government can provide advice such as the emergency “Go
Bag” suggestion that followed the September 11 terrorist attack. Most
people probably have forgotten about “Go Bags.” In a season of quiet,
Americans have a tendency towards complacency. But hey, the man in
the red cape is not going to fly to the rescue of Metropolis. Survival
depends on savvy individuals who are prepared. Think of it as an
extended camping trip that includes the pet pooch.

Too often we don’t realize we have a choice. Either we can react to fear
or we can think for ourselves and make intelligent decisions. In Neale
Donald Walsch’s “Conversations With God, Book 2,” he makes an
interesting comparison between Reactive and Creative: “Notice they are
the same word. Only the ‘C’ has been moved! When you ‘C’ things
correctly, you become Creative, rather than Reactive.”

This may sound a bit contrived. Maybe you challenge his books or think
he’s a phony. What difference does it make? Doesn’t your life involve a
series of choices? Following like sheep is easy but dumb. Being
creative requires some clear independent thinking.

President Franklin Roosevelt led the American people into and out of
war by reminding them that fear is a state of mind which only begets
more fear. Anything can happen. The stock market will head
south. It frequently does. Interest rates will rise. They often do. There will
be a deadly plague. Been there too. Thousands will die from terrorist
bombs. They already have. Living in constant fear of what might
happen is insane.

Imaginative independent thinking people like Thomas Edison or Bill
Gates for example, have made America the most creative nation on
earth. But if we allow government and corporations to think for us, we
are nothing but lemmings; we destroy the democracy our enlightened
Founding Fathers created, and we fail the millions of Americans who
died for it.

The number of people that cannot locate a renowned country on a map,
or name their congressional representatives is embarrassing. Yet they
know exactly how Tom and Katie delivered their baby and who is the
next American Idol. I am a lighthearted person. Without carefree, fun
loving people and experiences in my life I’d be bored and boring. But
there’s a difference between the fairytale of celebrity living, and living
the fairytale of celebrity.

Subliminally and overtly, we are being conditioned to believe the
falsehoods and fairytales of the “American Dream.” The fairytale of
Santa Claus, the fairytale of the Mayflower, the pilgrims and the first
Thanksgiving; the fairytale of the way the West was won, the fairytale of
why we went to war in Iraq, even the fairytale of the fairytale wedding
next time you see the clip of Princess Diana walking down the aisle,
take a good look at the poor girl’s face.

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under
heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3.1. Now I believe in this truth. But it is the
choices we make in life that determine the season.

&quotGreen&quot Organizing

"Green" Organizing is a growing trend developing in the professional organizing industry. And it’s here to stay. Green Organizing is an environmentally-friendly approach to professional organizing emphasizing the principles of “reduce—re-use—recycle”. It encourages thinking about the social and environmental impact of your purchases, as well as the ethics of the companies you buy from.

Green Organizers promote:

  • Using recycled and/or biodegradable products where possible and feasible
  • Re-using products rather than buying new products
  • Limiting the amount of unwanted items going to landfills by donating, free-cycling, selling and recycling as much as possible
  • Purchasing organizing products from companies that adhere to environmentally sustainable manufacturing practices

There is a new Yahoo group that provides an amazing network of resources for professional organizers and others who strive to practice simple, green and sustainable organizing. If you are interested in green organizing check it out at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/simpleandsustainableorganizers/ Green Organizers are also working on a set of voluntary Green Ethics to supplement the existing NAPO Code of Ethics http://www.napo.net/getorganized/ethics.html Here are some examples that may inspire you in how you organize your home.

As a Green Organizer, I will strive to:

  • Limit the nature and volume of the products I consume and discard
  • Purchase from Green product and service vendors.
  • Teaching Green practices to my children.
  • Set up effective and efficient recycling centers in my home.
  • Find creative ways to store potentially useful items or give them away for future re-use instead of throwing them away.
  • Purchase earth-friendly, second-hand, or locally-produced products where feasible.
  • Follow Green disposal practices such as:
    • Using recycling centers
    • Finding individuals or organizations who need unusual items I need to get rid of
    • Safely and legally disposing of toxic items.
  • Share my knowledge of green organizing with others.
  • Encourage vendors to offer more earth-friendly products.

Taking a Kayaking Vacation

A kayaking vacation can be one of the most memorable vacations you can possibly take. You’ll bring home memories that will last for years and years. There are so many wonderful, exciting destinations to choose from. The only restrictions will be how much you want to budget for your trip.

If you are on a tight budget, selection a destination no farther than one-half to one day’s drive from home. There are plenty of great kayaking vacations nearby no matter where you live. Depending on your tastes, you can even combine a kayaking with a camping trip to make it even more affordable.

If you want to travel to another state in America, you have great choices such as the Great Lakes, Florida, the Florida Keys, California, the Carolinas, New York, New Jersey, and every where up and down both coastlines. Select a state that interest you and investigate the kayaking destinations in that area. Once you find a kayaking vacation destination, you’ll be well on your way to
your wonderful getaway.

Other parts of the world offer a great many kayaking vacation options, such as New Zealand and Australia. Closer to the United States is Mexico which provides a very affordable vacation with some magnificent kayaking spots. The Bahamas and all the Caribbean islands make great vacation spots too.

Plan your kayaking vacation well in advance and reap the benefits of discount airfares for advance bookings. Also, consider traveling to your vacation destination during the off-season for that area. Many destinations such as Florida have discount hotel rates during the season that fewer visitors stay in that area. The discounts can be quite significant and allow you to stay several days longer than if you traveled during peak season.

Where ever you want to go, a kayaking vacation destination may be waiting for you and you’ll be able to thoroughly enjoy the trip by preparing in advance. Learn about the area where you will be staying. There are frequently many things to see and do besides kayaking. You can get in plenty of kayaking time and still visit other local attractions.

During your preparations for your kayaking vacation, be sure to check all your diving gear. Replace any worn equipment. Locate where you will be able to get your air tanks filled at your destination so that you don’t spend extra time locating a paddling shop. Once at your destination but before kayaking, review all the safety rules and be certain to follow them when on the water.
